Audrey, I use painters tape on my mat all the time. It doesn't even pull up any of the adhesive. You can use less tape to mark your corner of your cardstock. Hope this helps.

After trying this out, I could not get the blade to cut at the same place as the template. I found your instructions a bit confusing although I enjoyed your humor.
